"Cascade" is made up of re-created ID tags that were issued to 1,011 Japanese Americans from San Diego and Chula Vista. Most of the internees from this area were purposely sent to Poston because of their agricultural expertise. The Poston Camp has been referred to as a "camp within a camp": this camp was built on the Colorado River Indian Reservation, over the objections of the Tribal Council, who refused to be a part of doing to others what had been done to their tribe. However, officials of the Bureau of Indian Affairs overrode the Council, seeing the opportunity to bring in improvements and develop agricultural land on the War Department budget and with thousands of "volunteers," who would remain until 1946 and aid the Reservation's permanent population. These "volunteers" revamped the irrigation systems, improved the agricultural areas and planted crops.
Each tag had the names, the camp to which they were directed to, and a serial number.
My goal is to eventually re-create all 120,000 tags for ALL Japanese Americans who were interned to all the camps.
