The wildLIFE Project emerges from a deep concern for the accelerating loss of wild animals to poaching and illegal trade. Supported by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the Windgate Foundation, the exhibition traveled for three years, carrying with it a quiet but urgent message.

At its core, the work is an act of witness. It reflects Maruyama’s enduring connection to animals and responds to a reality in which thousands are killed and trafficked each month. What remains is not only absence, but a growing awareness of what is being lost—ecologically, collectively, and irrevocably.
